James Craig (1744 - 1795) was a Scottish architect. Its career was almost entirely devoted to Edinburgh. It is especially known to have drawn the district of New Town of Edinburgh. It gained the contest having to appoint the architect of this district at the 22 years age, in 1766. Its proposal was a rectilinear plan of three parallel streets (Princes Street, George Street and Queen Street) leading to two parks (St Andrew' S public garden and Charlotte public garden). Its plan was presented to the king George III in 1767.

Among his other work, one also notes the observatory on Calton Hill, Edinburgh.
