James Burton (1788 - 1862) is one of the first Egyptologist S British S. It worked on many sites through the Egypt and in particular in the Vallée of the Kings.
It followed its school course to the Trinity College to Cambridge.
In 1822 in spite of its ignorance on the Mineralogy, it is invited by the pasha Mehemet Ali to work as mineralogist at the institute of geology of Egypt. In 1825, it travels on the the Nile towards the south to visit Abou Simbel. It spends several months to Thèbes to release the sites of Médinet Habou, Karnak and several tombs of the valley of the Kings. At this time, it penetrates in KV5 but it explores the first rooms only partially.
