Jamaica Bay
The Jamaica Bay (“bay of Jamaica”) is a Lagon located near the Gratte-ciel S of the town of New York, and of the one of the most attended airports country, the John-F International airport. - Kennedy. The saline Marais of bay are used as habitat with many epèces of migratory birds, like with various species of savage animals. The majority of watery spaces and the marshes of bay are thus protected spaces since 1972. However, pollution, although attenuated remains an important problem, just as the progressive diminutuion of the size of the marshes, even if this last phenomenon is less often mentioned.
Jamaica Bay is located at the south-western point of the island of Long Island, at horse between the Borough of Brooklyn and of the Queens. The charts of the city appeared before 1910 mentioned bay under the name of Grass Bay , which could be translated “green Bay”. The situation of bay, and the abundant food resources make of it a true habitat for the wild animals and the birds (Rapace S, Limicole S…), while constituting a zone of sins important. All these species gather in rare spaces still accessible and viable of the bay, which gradually pays the heavy tribute of the urbanization.
Jamaica Bay constitutes moreover the hinge of the border between the New England (to which belonged the State of the Connecticut) and the Mid-Atlantic States (to which belonged the State of New York), marked by one limited of NORTH-SOUTH axis to the west, and a limit of axis is/western along Long Island.
