Jaime Lusinchi (May 27th 1924, Clarines, state of State d' Anzoátegui) is a doctor and politician Venezuelan, deputy, senator and President of the Republic between 1984 and 1989.
Lusinchi is member of the social democrat party Democratic Action. Candidate with the presidential elections which were to designate the successor of Luís Herrera Campíns (of the Christian party social COPEI), whose government had had to carry out drastic changes in the economy of the country, Lusinchi obtained a result impressing with the elections and enjoys an important approval rating during all its mandate. Its government was stable, in spite of the changes which the country required, which resulted in a deepening of public corruption, and an economic crisis, social and political.
Just as his/her comrade of party and successor to the government, Carlos Andrés Pérez, it was judged in corruption affairs in relation to its private secretary, Blanca Ibañez. The public opinion showed Ibañez to have an excessive capacity in the government, in connection with the personal relations which it had with Lusinchi. The cases of Lusinchi and Pérez eroded the credibility of the democratic social party and, for much, this was at the origin of the phenomenon represented by Hugo Chávez.
In 1988, almost at the end of its constitutional mandate, strapping it massacre of El Amparo occurred.
