Jacques the minor

Jacques is a name which, in New Testament, can correspond to several characters:

  • Jacques, wire of Zébédée, known as the Major one. Like his/her brother Jean, an apostle of Jesus de Nazareth: “Here names of the twelve apostles. The first, Simon called Pierre, and Andre, his brother; Jacques, wire of Zébédée, and Jean, his brother” (MT 10,2)
  • Jacques, wire of Alphée, one of the apostles: “Philippe, and Barthelemy; Thomas, and Matthieu, the publicain; Jacques, wire of Alphée, and Thaddée” (MT 10,3).
  • Jacques the Juste, brother of the Lord: “Isn't this the carpenter, the son of Marie, the brother of Jacques, Joses, Jude and Simon? and aren't his/her sisters here among us? ” (Mc 6,3).

Jacques the Minor , or the Small one is generally identified with Jacques the Juste, the “brother of the Lord”. The qualifier " Mineur" could translate a will of the majority current to minimize the current Judeo-Christian whose Jacques the Juste was the chief .

He is also sometimes included/understood as being Jacques, wire of Alphée, which implies that the name of “Alphée” is comparable to that of “Clopas”, which is very debatable.
