Jacques of Savoy-Nemours
Duke of Nemours Jacques of Savoy-Nemours , born with Vauluissant the October 12th 1531, died with Annecy the June 18th 1585, was count de Genève and duke of Nemours of 1533 with 1585.
It was wire of Philippe, count de Genève and duke of Nemours, and Charlotte, girl of Louis Ier, duke of Longueville. He was thus the grandson of the duke Philippe II of Savoy as well as the king François Ier de France his first cousin.
Biography
He announced to the seat of Lens in 1552, with the defense of Metz against Charles Quint in 1553, was used then in Flanders and Italy until the Trêve as Vaucelles (February 5th 1556). He was made general colonel of the light cavalry and continued to be distinguished during the wars of religion against the Protestant . It ordered the Swiss ones which brought back to Paris Charles IX, that the Calvinistes had wanted to take from Meaux.
In 1559, he was the ambassador of the duke Emmanuel-Philibert of Savoy at the time of its marriage with Marguerite de Valois, girl of François Ier de France and of Claude of France, which took place with Paris the July 10th 1559.
After having took share with the battles of Saint-Denis in 1567, it was charged to be opposed to the entry troops that the duke of Deux-Ponts sent to overcome. It failed in this forwarding by the fault of the duke of Aumale, its colleague, and was withdrawn in its duchy of Geneva, where it delivered to the culture letters and arts. The county of Geneva had been set up in duchy in 1564.
