Jacques de Tourreil , born with Toulouse the November 18th 1656 and died in Paris the October 11th 1714, is a Jurisconsulte and French man of letters.
Author of translations of Démosthène and tests of Jurisprudence, it is elected member of the royal Académie of the inscriptions and medals in 1691, of the French Academy in 1692 and of the Académie of the floral Plays in 1694. As a speaker having taken part in the first edition of the Dictionary of the French Academy , it is charged to make the presentation at the court of it, which it achieves on August 24th 1694 while not pronouncing less than thirty speeches. The delegation of the academicians, Louis XIV answers: “Sirs, here a work awaited for a long time. Since so many skilful people worked there, I do not doubt that it is very beautiful and very useful for the language. ”
The Œuvres of Jacques de Tourreil were joined together and published in two volumes by Guillaume Massieu in 1721.
