Jacques Van Gompel is a Belgian Politician , member of the Socialist party, born with Gilly the June 12th 1947. He is teacher of formation.

Political career

• 1970-1976 : To advise communal with Gilly
• 1979-1983: To advise communal with Charleroi
• 1979-1983: Deputy
• 1983-1988: Alderman of Youth and Public works with Charleroi
• 1989-1995: First alderman with Charleroi
• 1995-2000: Burgomaster making function, of the Town of Charleroi
• 2000-2006: Burgomaster of the Town of Charleroi
• 2006 -: To advise communal with Charleroi

He was also president of IGRETEC (Inter-commune for the management and the realization of technical studies and economic), administrator of with ISPPC, the Intercommunale of Health and public health of Charleroi ansi that of about thirty other mandates. He is still currently President of the Fondation Charleroi Positive.

The May 24th 2006, following the inculpation of its principal private secretary, and to the multiple businesses with repetition concerning the Socialist party carolo, Jacques Van Gompel gives his mandate of burgomaster to the hands of the president of the party, Elio Di Rupo. The President of the PS refuses this resignation and decides to trust Van Gompel to give of the order to Charleroi.

The October 8th 2006, Jacques Van Gompel is re-elected burgomaster with 17.916 votes. A few days later, the October 20th 2006, following its inculpation and its arrest in the business of the faked markets, it resigns of its post of burgomaster.
