Jacques Testart

Jacques Testart (born on October 3rd 1939) is a biologist French, which allowed the birth of the first Bébé test-tube in France in 1982.

Scientific activity

Agronomist and biologist of formation, science doctor, research director with the Inserm (National institute of health and the medical research), Laboratory of meiosis and gametic maturation, Inserm unit - ECA 566: “gamétogenèse and genotoxicity”; ex president of the CFDD (French Commission of sustainable development 1999-2003), Jacques Testart was devoted to the problems of Procréation natural and artificial at the animal and the man.

Of 1964 with 1977, he is researcher with the INRA (Reproduction of the domestic mammals).

Since 1978, he is researcher in Inserm (natural and artificial procreation in the mankind).

Author of the first " mothers porteuses" at the Bovine S (1972) then, with its biomedical team, of the first successes in France of human In vitro fertilization (1982), congelation of the human Embryo (1986), FIV with injection of the spermatozoon (1994). He is the scientific father of the first baby French test-tube born in 1982.

Political commitment

Concerned about what it estimates to be drifts of our companies, Jacques Testart affirms the obstinate defender of a science contained within the limits of human dignity and the real democracy.

Jacques Testart is chronicler of the newspaper the Decrease and supports Jose Bove in the presidential election of 2007.

He is the founder and the honorary president of the Federation of the biologists of the fecundation and the conservation of egg (BLEFCO). He is also founder former administrator of the Group of study of the FIV in France (GEFF) and of the computerized national file (FIVNAT). He is member of the National Commission of medicine and biology of reproduction (CNMBR) 1988 - 2000 and member of the Council for the rights of the future generations 1993 - 1995. He becomes president of the French Commission of sustainable development (CFDD) between 1999 and 2003 and member of the Council of evaluation and futurology of the Commission of the foreign affairs and the plan of the Senate (since 2003).

Jacques Testart is also president, in exercise, of Inf' GMO and association for a Foundation sciences citizens FSC, and is member of the Scientific advice of Attac. He is also very critical towards GMO.

Author of several platforms in Le Monde in 2007, it is posed as an enemy Economic liberalism”. He supports there that the eugenism is with the service of liberalism and that the Scientisme is the natural ally of this last; he also estimates that Nicolas Sarkozy is ultra-liberal and calls with a “science citizen”, indicating that one needs “refonder our system of research around an new agreement between science and company, of new missions and orientations of research and a strong alliance between the actors of the public research and the civil society, carrying noncommercial interests”.
