Jacques Tardi

Jacques Tardi (born the August 30th 1946 with Valence) is an author and draftsman of Cartoon French, holder in 1985 of the prestigious Grand Prix of Angouleme.

Biography

It was born in Valence, but remained with his father with Kassel, in the Germany according to the devastations of the war. His/her father will resign of the Army, refusing to go in Indo-China.

After being entered with the National school of the fine arts of Lyon at 16 years, then with the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of decorative Arts with Paris, it begins, in 1969, in the review Pilote ; he is then 23 years old. Its first album is Rumeur on Rouergue , published in 1971 in Pilote , on a scenario of Pierre Christin. Since, it gained an important popularity in the world of the cartoon, even if her assistantship is limited to a French-speaking public, adult and literary.

The universe of Tardi is easy to summarize: suburbs of Paris, the anarchists, some monsters, of the soldiers and the war, and, everywhere, the misery which pitches, the revolt… The work of Tardi is very explicit. Its work on the First World War ( It was the war of distinct the ) is greeted unanimously. It evokes in particular the Soldats shot for the example. His/her large father had been gauze during this war. Of its choices of authors (adapted, illustrated like Celine, Daniel Pennac, Jean Vautrin, Léo Malet…) release themselves from emotional, imaginary but so political coherences.

Its style can seem close to the clear Ligne of Hergé (which one thinks, for example, with the bubbles very data base ), but the works of Tardi have a clear tendency to ridicule the concept of the “hero”, his characters can be complete Anti-héros, victims of the walk of the world without catch (except accidental) on this one, even of simple witnesses refusing to act differently than for their own account.

He lives with the singer Dominique Grange. He sponsors the Salon of the popular book of expression and social criticism of Arras.
