Jacques Rogge
The count Jacques Rogge , born the May 2nd 1942 with Ghent, is a Chirurgie N Belgian orthopedist , former sportsman and since 2001, the eighth president of the International Olympic committee, supreme authority of the Olympic movement.
Medical career
After studies of medicine to L `University of Ghent, it specializes in surgery and Médecine of the sport. He works as orthopedic surgeon and is part-time lecturer in medicine of the sport in the Universit3e libre de Bruxelles and the University with Ghent.
Sporting career
Jacques Rogge bathes in the Olympic universe since his youth. Thus, it begins the sail as of more the young age and is familiarized with the sports in any kind. Skipper hémérite, the Belgian contributed in the tests of Finn at the time of the Olympic Games of summer of 1968 to Mexico City, of 1972 with Munich and of 1976 with Montreal. Administrative sporting career
First experiments
After a sporting career filled, Jacques Rogge chooses to direct himself towards the sporting administration. He is thus mission leader with the Winter Olympics of 1976 with Innsbruck, and in 1988 with Calgary. With the Plays of summer, he is mission leader at the time of the Olympic Games of summer of 1980 with Moscow, those of 1984 with Los Angeles and those of Seoul in 1988.Of 1989 with 1992, he is president of the Olympic committee and Belgian Interfédéral and becomes president of the European Olympic committees (COE). Jacques Rogge is rewarded for his engagement and becomes a member of the International Olympic committee in 1991.
Since then, he became member of the executive commission in 1998; he becomes also president of the co-ordinating committees of the Jeux of XXVIIe Olympiade to Sydney of 1995 with 2000 and of the Jeux of Athens of 1998 to 2004. He integrates several commissions among which the Olympic Movement (1990-1999), Olympic Solidarité (1990-) or the medical commission (1992-1993) of which he occupies the vice-presidency since 1994.
Presidency of the CIO
Its experiment and its past of sportsman enable him to claim with the presidency of the principal international sporting authority. Jacques Rogge is elected President of the International Olympic committee the July 16th 2001 at the time of the 112e session of the CIO succeeding thus Spanish Juan Antonio Samaranch posts some since 1980. He is elected as of the second round of vote with 59 votes vis-a-vis the South-Korean Young Kim, the English Richard Pound, American Anita Defrantz, and the Hungarian Stake Schmitt.
