Jacques Quétif

Jacques Quétif (1618 with Paris - 1698) is a French bibliographer, historian about the Dominican S.

Entered the order of Dominican at 17 years, he studies the Philosophie in Paris and the Théologie with Bordeaux. In 1652, he becomes librarian of the Dominican convent of the Rue Saint-Honore in Paris. It maintains the relations with the chancellor Séguier, who entrusts his library to him and the choice of his books. He is very consulted as an expert in canon law. Its knowledge and its facility to write Latin make it indicate by his superiors to write the history of the order. Unfinished at the time of its death, its work is supplemented later by Jacques Échard, which makes it appear under the title Scriptores ordinis praedicatorum recensiti notis historicis and criticis illustrati auctoribus in 1719 - 21.
