Jacques Olivier
honourable the Joseph Mario Jacques Olivier , C.P. (April 14th 1944 -) is a Canadian politician. He was federal minister, trade-union chief and mayor of Longueuil to the Quebec. He is better known under the name of Jacques Olivier.
During its youth, he worked with the Hôpital Charles-LeMoyne, becoming the chief of the trade union of this hospital, then the chief of the National federation of the employees of hospital. In 1970, appointed Liberal party of Canada (PLC), the Prime Minister of Canada Pierre Trudeau names it attending the Cabinet of Canada for the employment relationships.
With the election of 1972, Olivier is elected with the House of Commons of Canada in the district of Longueuil; he is named Minister for Labor. Of 1976 with 1978, it is parliamentary Secrétaire for the Canadian ministry of work.
After the election of 1980, Olivier is with the head of the Caucus Québécois of the PLC. In January 1984, Trudeau appoints it minister of state in the physical condition and the sport amateur. John Napier Turner, new chief of the PLC, the fact of leaving the cabinet after its election. The same year, Olivier east demolishes in his own district.
After his defeat, Olivier becomes Concessionnaire for Ford with Saint-Hubert and, soon, it joined the Corporation of the automobile dealers of Large Montreal and Quebec . In 1987, it is presented to the town hall of Longueuil, in suburbs of Montreal, but east demolishes. In 2001, it is elected mayor of the new amalgamated city of Longueuil, and becomes the vice-president of the executive committee of the metropolitan Communauté of Montreal. Olivier carries out his municipal own party, the Équipe Olivier , which holds an important majority with the Conseil of city of Longueuil.
Its mandate as mayor is discussed: it is unpopular among defusionnists and the newspaper montréalais the Press qualifies it the authoritative one. At the summer 2005, it undergoes a Putsch in its own party, carried out by its ex-rival Claude Gladu, who becomes the next mayor of Longueuil by gaining the elections of November 6th, 2005.
