Biography
During its career of player in the National league of hockey which lasted of 1967 to 1979, it occupied the position of center for the Canadian of Montreal. Its shooting was famous to be frightening. He played sides of some of the best players of the history of the Canadian such as Guy Lafleur, Yvan Cournoyer, Ken Dryden like Henri Richard. He were together the craftsmen of the more long period of success of the team, gaining the Coupe Stanley with eight recoveries, that is to say in 1968,1969,1971,1973,1976,1977,1978 and 1979.As a trainer, it made initially a short appearance at the Canadian during the season 1984-1985, but it is with the Devils of the New Jersey of 1993-1994 with 1997-1998 qu ' it forged really its reputation. In 1995, it led its team to the Stanley cut, gaining by sweeping the final against the Red Wings de Détroit which was regarded by many experts as being a team quite higher than Devils. It used the defensive trap door then , a strategy which consists in creating a stopping in neutral zone. This strategy is regarded as effective but not very spectacular. After this victory, the team had less success, but the trap door was adopted by many teams of the national league. It occupies now the post of trainer chief for the Wild of Minnesota.
It gained the Trophée Jack Adams better trainer in 1994 and 2003.
