Work

Its research topics are:
  • the city and last centuries of the the Middle Ages: part of its work tends to show that the historical tradition which divides the European history into Moyen-âge and Renaissance is not founded, and that categorization in so distinct historical periods masks on the one hand a true solution of continuity and on the other hand geographical disparities some. It is the object, inter alia, of its test the Middle Ages, an imposture (1999).
  • the Trade in the Mediterranean at the 14th century and 15th century: its thesis of doctorate aims at showing that the importance of the trade of the spice in the Mediterranean was largely over-estimated by the historians. Actually, according to its work, the corn, salt and other products held much more place than the trade of spice (in term of volume and value in the exchanges). Fernand Braudel, which always evoked the importance of spice in the exchanges, recognizes the serious scientist of work of Jacques Heers.

  • the legend of the Arab contribution in the redécouverte of the Greek thought in Europe: today, Jacques Heers thinks that one largely over-estimates the contribution of the Arabs in the redécouverte of the philosophy of Aristote in Occident. According to him, “teaching the Greek thought in Occident, that of the Logical in particular, forever ceased in the schools cathedrals then in the very first universities. One made use then of Latin translations of the Greek texts of origin that the clerks and the scholars of Constantinople piously had kept and largely diffused. Translations of the Greek in Arab language and Latin Arabic, whom one generally allots to Avicenne and with Averoès appeared relatively late, whereas all the lesson was already places from there to Occident and that made more than one century that the Logique , directly inspired by Aristote, like one of the seven " was recognized; arts libéraux" university course. ”
