Jacques Faget de Baure

Jacques - Joseph Faget de Baure is a politician and a French historian, born the October 30th 1755 with Orthez (Yrénées-Atlantiques) and deceased the December 30th 1817 with Paris.

Biography

Resulting from an old woman family of dress, Jacques Faget de Baure was characterized by his precocity, completing his philosophy with the Collège of Juilly at 14 years. He was a talented prosecuting attorney with the Parlement of Navarre as of the 19 years age. Fine well-read man - it practiced the Greek with an astonishing facility -, it devoted himself to the history of the Béarn and wrote a historical test starting from new documents. The Révolution stopped its career and he was imprisoned during the Terreur. In 1809, Napoleon appointed it rapporteur of the contentious council of his house. The following year, Jacques Faget de Baure was elected appointed of the Low-Pyrenees to the legislative Body. In 1811, he became president at the imperial court in Paris and knight of the Légion of honor. After having served the Empire, it adopted the Bourbons. He was elected appointed of the Low-Pyrenees the August 22nd 1815 then the October 4th 1816 and supported the ministerial majority with the Chambre.

Ouvrage written at the request of the heirs to Pierre-Paul Riquet to restore this last like undeniable the inventive of the Channel of the South, in answer to a History of the Channel of the South (1800) written by the general Antoine François Andréossy, who tended to show that his ancestor François Andréossy, collaborator of Riquet, was the inventor of the projet.

Le handwritten of these Essais was burned under Terror, at the time of the imprisonment of its author and the confiscation of his papers. But his/her friend the baron of Laussat had made a copy of it. After the death of Faget de Baure, its widow made publish this work and charged her brother-in-law, the count Daru, to supervise the édition.
