Jacques Dondoux
Jacques Dondoux , born the November 16th 1931 with Lyon, is an engineer and French Politician.
Biography
Jacques Dondoux is polytechnician (X1951 promotion) and engineer of the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of telecommunications. General engineer of telecommunications in the Seventies, it was one of the principal project superintendents of the Plan of extension of the French phone network. He begins his professional path to the Hundred (national center of studies of telecommunications) in 1956, in the capacity as engineer. He will take the direction in 1971 of it.In 1974, Valery Giscard d'Estaing prefers to him Gerard Théry as managing director of Telecommunications and exiles it with the general inspection. Member of the High council of Audio-visual of 1973 with 1976, it takes his revenge in 1981: François Mitterrand thanks his rival Gerard Théry and appoints it managing director of telecommunications (before they become a public limit company under the name of France Telecom). It is him which will allow the formidable development of the precursor of Internet which was the Minitel, by imagining famous “the Kiosk”, which will bring back much money to Télécoms Frenchwomen. It also leads during these years the settling of the first French satellites of telecommunication, and in partnership with Télécoms German, of the standard GSM which will allow the explosion of mobile telephony later.
There remain five years at this station, protected by the president from the Republic, in spite of the sharp opposition of its partial trusteeship, Louis Mexandeau.
In 1986, the cohabitation puts an end to its functions and it is folded up on the presidency of the Research institute economic and social on telecommunications (IREST) and of the OMSYC (World Observatory of the Communication systems).
Throughout its career, it cumulates its responsibilities with seats with the CNES and CNRS
Moreover, he was member of the board of trustees of Alcatel since 1987, and administrator of Thomson since 1989.
This man of influence is mayor of Saint-Agrève (Ardèche) and general adviser of the Canton of Saint-Agrève since 1988. He presented first once to the delegation in 1988, without label but with the support of the PS. He adhered to PRS in 1996, at the time when this party carried out the nominations, and was elected like candidate of union PRS-PS.
He is elected appointed in 1997 of the 2nd district of the Ardèche. Secretary of State to the Foreign trade until 1999, during the first government of Lionel Jospin.
His/her brother, the adviser of State Philippe Dondoux, belonged to various ministerial cabinets gaullists.
Commander of the National order of the Legion of Honor and the National order of the Merit, Knight of the Academic Palms, Jacques Dondoux will die brutally the May 21st 2002 of a brain hemorrhage.
