Jacques Doctor

Jacques Médecin is a man Politique French born the May 5th 1928 with Nice and deceased the November 17th 1998 with Punta del Este in Uruguay.

Biography

Resulting from an big family niçoise with her father, Jean Doctor which was mayor of Nice during 37 years and marked deeply the political life of the the Alpes-Maritimes, and his grandfather, Alexandre Médecin, who was general adviser.

On died of his/her father, in 1966, it is essential as a successor impossible to circumvent and gains unanimously the town hall of Nice of the members of the municipal council. It is then hardly 37 years old and will be re-elected there five times. It will achieve at this station of many building sites: Nice-The-plain, the business District of the Arenas, the Museum of modern art, the fast track, of the underground parkings, the boulevard Napoleon III, the purification plant of Ferber, Nice-Star…

Strong personality, independent, impulsive, anticommunist convinced and savage, he was member of CNI, the Independent Republicans, then returned with the CNI, while being connected with the RPR, which did not prevent it flirter with the FN, of which he stated to divide “99  % of the ideas” . In the last months of its political career, it ceased being related RPR, following its remarks very disputed on the Jews of its municipal council.

At the time of the debate on the bill authorizing the Voluntary interruption of pregnancy, defended by Simone Veil in 1974, he decides against the abortion, informant, in particular that, “the abortion, it is a murder”, and that the authorization of this act could lead to the authorization of the voluntary manslaughter. In 1981, he votes against the abolition of the Capital punishment, and asks his re-establishment thereafter, in particular at the time of a demonstration, in 1988.

In addition to its post of mayor of Nice, it was appointed of the Alpes-Maritimes of 1967 with 1988, Secretary of State to Tourism in the government of Raymond Barre of 1976 with 1978 and president of the general advice of the Alpes-Maritimes of 1973 with 1990.

Abroad, it is made call “count of Médicis”, implying a certain nobility which it does not have (it takes care well not to do it in France where the Titers of nobility are protected by the law).

At the end of the years 1980, many suspicions weigh on its management and the legal vice is tightened around him. In November 1989, it is accused for " offense of ingérence" , and will follow other criminal charges. In September 1990, it resigns of all its mandates and flees with Punta del Este in Uruguay. Charles Pasqua and the newspaper Nice-Morning supports it, this last writing that Jacques Médecin resigned “by lassitude in an unequal combat against calumny” . Condemned by the court of Grenoble, it is stopped by the police force Uruguay enne and is transferred to the prison from Montevideo in November 1993, then extradited in France in November 1994, where it is condemned four times to imprisonment. In January 1996, it turns over to Punta del Este where it will die the November 17th 1998.
