Birth of Clarins

It should have been a doctor if the war had not stopped its studies. To the Release, estimating that the esthetic care could be used like therapy, it launches Doctor-Bust , an apparatus which masses and shower the Sein.

In 1954, street Tronchet in Paris, it founds the Institute Clarins, whose cabins of care are attended by the stars of the time besides (it tested on him its products). Being caught passion for the plants, it launches the first treating oil, oil tonic in 1966. Instigating water will know a world success later 20 years.

Success and internationalization of the group

Thanks to his/her son Christian the group settles abroad. It diversifies while joining Thierry Mugler or by repurchasing in 1995 the perfumes Azzaro then Hugo Boss. In 1984, the group is introduced at the second market of the Bourse de Paris. It is worth today 2 billion euros, prisoners with 65,14 % by the Courtin family. If the perfumes become one of the pillars of the group, diversification is not always happy. In 2003, the closed group the pole seams Thierry Mugler.

In 2000 Jacques Courtin yields the capacity has its two sons: the groin, Christian, become president of the directory and the second, Olivier managing director. In 2006, Clarins carried out a turnover of 967 million euros and includes/understands 5400 people.

It is deceased in its residence of Neuilly-sur-Seine in the night from March 22nd to 23rd 2007.

Anecdotes

Jacques Courtin , president of the board of trustees, went daily to its work and had envisaged to present a new product in September.
In spite of its success the man remained modest all his life: on its tomb, it wished to see this épithaphe: Ci-to lie a man who always knew to be surrounded people more intelligent than him .
In 1978, it had added to its patronym, the name of its company of cosmetics.
