Jacques Camou

Jacques Camou (1792 - 1868) was a French general and senator.

Born on May 1st 1792 with Sarrance, it joined as a Sergent the 1st battalion of the hunters of the Montagne S the September 6th 1808. It formed then part of the armed with Spain in 1811, of the army of Italy in 1813, of the army of the Alps in 1815, was made prisoner of war in 1813, and accepted three wounds with the business of Saint-Hermangors in Illyrie, towards the sources of the Tagliamento.

Its career was temporarily stopped in consequence of the dismissal of the army in 1815, but it returned to the service in 1817 like lieutenant in the legion of the the Low-Alps. It took share with the war of Spain in 1823 and with the forwarding of Algiers in 1830. It is in Algeria that he managed to cross the most difficult ranks. It was used to with it particularly with the seat as Zaatcha, city and Oasis of the province of Constantine, which was taken by storm the November 26th 1859 after a long seat.

Camou had been named Brigadier general on April 25th 1848. Become Major general on February 6th 1852 and named ordering division of Algiers, the Camou general left the Algérie only to take the command of a division of the Armée with the East. Before the end of the Head office of Sébastopol, it was put at the head of the 2nd division of infantry of the imperial guard, which it still ordered in 1859 during the countryside of Italy.

It had received in 1857 the large cord of the Légion of honor and it was high the December 30th 1863 with the dignity of senator. He died the February 8th 1868.
