Jacques Arcadelt

Type-setter free-Flemish born towards 1504 and died in Paris in 1568.

Life

Probably raises Josquin of the Meadows in France, it studied then with Florence with Philippe Verdelot.

He lived certainly in the entourage of Adrian Willaert with Venice where he published all his collections of madrigaux (5 books with 4 votes and 1 to 3 votes).

He was also in Rome singer of the papal Chapelle and finally with the service of the cardinal from Lorraine in Paris where he published Messe S, Motet S and Chanson S.

Work

Known especially as madrigalist, Arcadelt preserved the simplicity of the still primitive form of the Italian Madrigal, which one also observes in his crowned and profane compositions of the French period.

Arcadelt died in Paris on October 14th, 1568. It was one of the musicians who, in the furrow of Cyprien de Rore, represented best those which were at the origin of first madrigaux Italian. At its time, Arcadelt was very popular, as testify some to the annotations on found collections, but it somewhat lost this notoriety nowadays.
