Jacques-Henri Lartigue
Jacques-Henri Lartigue (June 13rd 1894 born with Courbevoie - September 12th 1986) is a Photographe French.
Album of family, quasi-autobiographical universe, glance of child, universe of the middle-class leisures. Jacques-Henri Lartigue liked to surprise through a photograph, it gave a glance different of common things while playing on the camera angles, the instantaneous one, the black and white.
Painter of trade, it brought to the photograph a theoretical esthetics (with the direction Canonique of the term) which one finds in his instantaneous, or the rules of composition are always present. He belongs to the Parisian vagueness of the middle of the twentieth century at the sides of Picasso, Jean Cocteau, and Sacha Guitry.
One finds in his work of paintings, of the photographs of press, instantaneous, the photographs of mode. It was in addition that which carried out official photography into 1978 of Valery Giscard d'Estaing, President of the French Republic of 1974 to 1981.
" I am not photographer writer painter, I am empaillor of the things which the life offers to me in passant". JH Lartigue .
At the end of its life, it yields all its photographs at the French State, and more than three hundreds of its fabrics to his friends the mayor of Isle-Adam then with his wife. This gift is at the origin of creation in this small town of the Val-d'Oise of the center of exposure Jacques-Henri Lartigue.
Since 2003, the Lartigue Foundation, created in 2000, under the aegis of the Foundation of France develops a base specific and personalized at the Lartigue bottoms, gathering the funds iconographic of the Association of the Friends of Jacques Henri Lartigue and the funds of files of the Lartigue Foundation. Adapted model designed by the Hartung-Bergman Foundation since 1994, the Lartigue base constitutes innovating research tools, whose management style facilitates the design from new points of view in the scientific discipline. Indeed, the system, gathering a great quantity of data, crosses the iconographic collection (albums (14500 pages), the unit photographs, 450 drawings, 1100 paintings) with the funds of files (the newspaper (digitized and indexed) of 1911 to 1986, the notebooks (digitized and indexed) of 1910 to 1919, the correspondence (Avedon, Cartier-Bresson…), notes of the artist. By providing an access to the images starting from relative data to the files (dates, places, personalities), the base takes part in the inscription of the work of Lartigue in its historical, economic and social context.
A thesis is currently in hand on the work of Lartigue to Paris I. This scientific work synthesizes the many problems which emerge from this new data-processing base Lartigue and approaches its work under a new angle (elegance, the albums of family, private report).
