Jacques-Corentin Royou

Jacques-Corentin Royou (1745-1828) was a French historian.

Brother of the Abbot Royou, it was born with Quimper. Initially journalist like his brother, it was made then lawyer, and tore off with dead the several defendants under the Directoire.

He was under the dramatic Restauration critic and pensioner.

One has of him:

  • two tragedies: Phocion (1817) and the Death of César (1825),
  • a comedy: the Slinger ,
  • Precise of the Old story according to Rollin , 1802,
  • Roman History to Auguste , 1806,
  • History of the Roman Emperors , 1808,
  • History of the Lower Empire , 1813,
  • French history since Pharamond , 1819

These historical works were shown of partiality, the author showing there at the same time the defender of the royal capacity and the adversary of the clerical power.
