Jacopo Nardi

Jacopo Nardi (born with Florence in 1476 and died with Venice the March 11th 1563) was a historian, a playwright and an Italian translator of the Renaissance.

Biography

His/her father, Salvestro Nardi, belong to an old florentine family, originating in the suburbs of the city. Jacopo is one of the first disciples of Savonarole, and witnesses its execution. Dependant on the Republican party, it occupies various stations in the administration of the State Florentin, and remains however in good terms with Médicis after their return to the capacity in 1512. But, after its participation in the republican revolution of 1527, he is banished of Florence in 1530, and joint with the efforts of exiled to take again the city. He settles finally with Venice, where he dies in poverty.

Before leaving in exile, Jacopo Nardi had composed two comedies, accompanied by songs carnavalesques, Amicizia and I Due Felici Rivali .

Later, it translates Tite-Live and Cicéron, and writes a Vie of Antonio Giacomini , a soldier of the Republic died in 1517. During last years of its life, he writes his Histoire of the town of Florence ( Istorie beyond città di Firenze ) which covers one period active of 1494 at a few years before the death of the author.
