Jacky Ickx , born Jacques Bernard Ickx with Brussels on January 1st 1945, is a pilot considered as the uncontested champion of the Belgian automobile sport.
Biography
Very often called " Mr Mans" because of its six victories at the time of the test queen of the 24 hours of Mans, Jacky Ickx is one of the racing drivers who will have marked the twentieth century, so much by his behavior of gentleman than by his rich person prize list in many disciplines of automobile competition.Ickx will make an entry thundering in the high-level competition in 1967 while beating, at the wheel of modest a Matra of Formule 2, it quasi totality of the Formule 1 with the tests of the Grand Prix of Germany to Nurbürgring. It began at the end of the season in Monza at the wheel from Cooper Maserati, being classified sixth. Engaged by Ferrari in 1968, it gains its first GP over the circuit of Rouen Essarts. The following years, it will be always with the point of the combat in F1 and sport-prototype. It will sign its last victory in F1 with the GP of Germany 1972 (on a total of 8) at the wheel of this Ferrari 312 B2. Eclectic pilot par excellence, it will have forged himself, all confused disciplines, an impressive prize list (in particular a sumptuous victory with the finish with the 24 hours of Mans 1969, remained in all the memories), finishing his career by the rally-raids, and a victory with the Paris-Dakar.
He has 5 children, of which Vanina, which follows the traces of his/her father in the world of the automobile sport.
