Biography
Jackie Stewart made its beginnings Formulates 1 in 1965 of them in the stable British Racing Motors, at the sides of the frightening English pilot Graham Hill, which had already obtained a championship of the world (1962). For its first participation at a Grand Prix, the 1 {{er}} January 1965, with the Grand Prix of South Africa, it impresses the observers while finishing in the points, in the 6th place of a race gained by Jim Clark.
As of September 12th 1965, whereas it disputes only its eighth race in Formule 1, Jackie Stewart confirms its enormous potential while gaining, over the circuit of Monza, the first of the 27 victories which will mark out its career and will allow him to obtain three titles of world champion. It is essential at the time of GP of Italy in front of its fellow-member, old the British world champion Graham Hill (BRM, 2nd) and the American daN Gurney (Brabham - Climax, 3rd).
Jackie Stewart disputed, in nine seasons, 99 Grands Prix and gained 27 of them (beating the record of 25 victories established five years earlier by another Scot, regretted the Jim Clark). This record established in 1973, was beaten by Alain Prost only in 1987. Jackie Stewart is assembled 43 times on the podium and finished 57 times in the points. It obtained 17 pole positions and 15 better turns in race. During its career, it has marked 360 points with championship of world of Formula 1 and obtained three times championship of world, in 1969 on Matra (year when he also gains the Race off Champions except championship), in 1971 and 1973 on Tyrrell (year when he gains his second BRDC International Trophy). It was withdrawn from the competition the day before its 100e participation, the October 6th 1973, following the death of its fellow-member François Cevert, during the tests of the Grand Prix of the United States with Watkins Glen.
It returned in Formula 1 several years later in the role of owner of stable to the side of his Paul son. The stable began the competition at the time of the Grand Prix from Australia 1997 with for pilots Rubens Barichello and Jan Magnussen and V10 Ford Cosworth like engine. This first year was going to be punctuated of a good surprise with a second place with the Grand Prix of Monaco. However, the remainder of the year as well as the following year were going to prove rather difficult, the team having little experiment. It is necessary nevertheless to greet the great courage of Stewart which started from a white sheet to build their stable, contrary with Alain Prost which had repurchased Ligier with the beginning of the year.
Year 1999 proceeded in a much better manner. Stewart appeared well conceived and made it possible to the two pilots (Rubens Barichello and Johnny Herbert) to go to seek points regularly. This good season was punctuated by the great victory of Herbert under extreme conditions in Nürbürgring, Barichello crossing the line in 3rd position. However, Ford had been shown increasingly pressing, and Stewart sold their stable to the giant of the car with satisfaction to have seen one of their car triumphing during a Grand Prix and to have finished in 4th position with the Championship, behind Jordan, McLaren and Ferrari. The adventure continued under the name of Jaguar.
Jackie Stewart left an imperishable memory Formulates of them 1, not only thanks to its immense talent, but as by its engagement for the improvement of the security conditions in race (estimating as the pilots were not paid to take ill-considered risks), but also for its very professional approach of the race, preceding in that of the pilots of the gauge of Prost, Senna or Schumacher.
Jackie Stewart was until in 2006 president of the BRDC (British Racing Drivers' Club) - association which manages, inter alia, the Circuit of Silverstone and the organization of the automobile Grand Prix of Great Britain - function which it transmitted to another world champion of F1, Damon Hill, wire of the double champion of the world Graham Hill.
