Jackie DeShannon
Jackie DeShannon , from its true name Sharon Lee Myers , was born the August 21st 1944 with Hazel, Kentucky. It was one of the first women Chanteuse S Compositrice S of the period of the Rock “roll.
Biography
Her parents, Sandra Jean and James Erwin Myers, working in the showbusiness, it started to interpret songs of Country on a local radio at the six years age. At eleven years, DeShannon directed already its personal program of radio. Enrigistrant under various names such as Sherry Lee, Jackie Dee, and Jackie Shannon, it have little success. However, its interpretations of the songs of country " Buddy " and " Disorder " drew the attention of Eddie Cochran, which sent it in California and made him meet the singer-compositrice Sharon Sheeley, who wrote in co-operation with DeShannon in 1960. In 1962, DeShannon signed a contract with Liberty Records and recorded " Needles and Pines " and " When You Walk in the Room " , which had an enormous success with the the United States. These tubes were reinterpreted in 1963 by the English group The Searchers. It recorded several other titles which had little success. During these years, they were more its talents of compositrice which of singer who allowed him to keep her contract with Liberty Records. It had a connection with Elvis Presley and bound friendship with The Everly Brothers and Ricky Nelson. It had also a role and sang with Bobby Vinton in the film Surf Party .
Its most important opening took place in February 1964, when it supported the first American round of the Beatles and formed a group with the guitarist Ry Cooder. DeShannon wrote also " Don' Doubt Yourself Babe " for the first album of the The Byrds. Its music at that time was strongly influenced by the movement west coast of the end of the year sixty and the beginning of the year seventy in the United States and by the Musique folk. At the time of a short stay in England in 1965, it joined for the writing of songs Jimmy Page, creating " Dream Servant boy " and " Don' T Turn Your Back one Me ". They also composed for the singer Marianne Faithfull, in particular the title " Like and Stay with Me ". DeShannon also appeared in the television program Ready Steady Go! .
Moving with New York, DeShannon wrote with Randy Newman songs such as " She Don' T Understand Him " and " Did He Cal Today Mama " , like " You Cuts No Choice " for Delaney Bramblett. With the end of the year 1965, it was the first interpreter of " What the World Needs Now Is Love " of Burt Bacharach and Hall David, song which was classified No 1 and revealed it regularly on television and in rounds of clubs. This recording was used in 1969 in the film Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice. She turned in 1967 to the sides of Bobby Vee in the film It my Let' S Live has Little as a singer folk. She continued the composition and the song, but she had to wait for her next large success until in 1968 with the individual one and the album entitled " Could has Little Love in Your Heart ". The title " Love Will Find has Way " drawn from the same album had a moderate success. Turning to Atlantic Records in 1970 and moving with Los Angeles, DeShannon recorded the albums " Jackie " and " Your Baby Has Lady " , but they did not have same success as the preceding exits. In 1973, it was invited by Van Morrison to sing on its album " Hardware Nose the Highway ".
" Could has Little Love in Your Heart " was interpreted with the concert closure Music for UNICEF, was diffused in the whole world by the General meeting of the United Nations in 1979.
Although DeShannon did not produce others any more hits with success itself, many artists took again its songs successfully. In 1975, it composed with Donna Weiss " Queen off the Rodeo " and " White beet Davis Eyes " for its album " New Arrangement ". The song " White beet Davis Eyes " reinterpreted by Kim Carnes in 1981 was classified No 1 world. Thanks to this title, DeShannon obtained in 1982 the Grammy Award for the song of the year.
The songs " Breakaway ", interpreted by Tracey Ullman in 1983, and " Could has Little Love in Your Heart " , interpreted by Annie Lennox and Al Green in 1988 then taken again by Dolly Parton in 1993, also became of large success. A version of " When You Walk in the Room " , interpreted by the ex-singer of Abba Agnetha Fältskog in its album " My Colouring Book " and was a success in Europe.
