Jack the Ripper

Jack the Ripper , of the English name of Jack the eventror, is an rock group, French, trained in 1995. The name of the eight French comes from a song of Nick Cave, groups which constitutes a great part of their influences.

Biography

Jack the Ripper is trained in 1995 per two brothers, Arnaud and Thierry Mazurel, respectively with the song and the low and double bass, soon joined by two other members. The first finalized version will be of eight members who will give their first concert to the Green woodpecker, in Paris, on December 25th, 1995. There does not remain any trace in this concert, whether it is at the pictorial or sound level. During two years, the Gold Arrow and the barges of the quays of the Seine become places in concerts for the group which leaves soon a first album live five titles. In 1998, they try out a first recording in studio, transfer which will lead to the total destruction of the recorded pieces, except Party In Downtown which will be re-recorded on their second album, I' m coming, in 2003, becoming thereafter an impossible to circumvent piece of concert.

Some concerts are followed until the meeting with Yann Dupuis in February 1998 which will become their official sound engineer into live. The Ripper record some models, which, in spite of the word of mount and the reputation which the group starts to acquire, will be always refused, under the thin pretext which the group prefers to sing in English, which does not seem to be appropriate for the labels of productions. That's no problem, Jack the Ripper car-will thus produce its first album, The Book Of Dregs, entirely sung in English. A violonist and a trumpet player come to bring their talent on songs such as: Haunted, In has Bar With Billy Kunt, Prayer In has Tango. The two musicians join the group. At the same time, the bass player Thierry Mazurel discovers a Brazilian painter named Juarez Machado, with which the group collaborates by integrating one of its works: " The festival continue" , like illustration of the small pocket of their album.

The group presents this album during all the year 2000 and 2001 and are finally pointed out by an independent distributer, Poplane, which will intégera The Book Of Dregs with its catalog.

September 11th, 2001, Jack the Ripper leaves its first official album.

The year 2002 is one year ostentation for the group. Elected officials " Scène" talents; discoveries of the Spring of Bourges 2002, the organizers their propose to ensure the first part of The International Noise Company, on April 13rd.

Under the tent of Magic Mirror of Bourges, the group signs semi-officially with the green village for two albums, and with Olympic Tour as official turner.

May in December 2002, the Ripper leave in international round in all France. The group is noticed and the concert halls fill gradually under the effect of the word of mount. July 6th, 2002, they carry out the first part of Yann Tiersen to the theater Napoleon III in Compiègnes.

From December 2002 in January 2003, Jack the Ripper records its second album, I' m Coming, which will leave on March 17th the same year. Once more, it is a painting of Machado, Bain of the Moon, which is selected to illustrate the album.

It is then their second Nationale round of May 2003 in June 2004. The Ripper foam the rooms of France, impressing the spectators by their presence in scene and the extraordinary charisma of their singer. One starts to murmur the name of the group in the streets of the capital.

From October 2004 in March 2005, Jack the Ripper prepares its third album with the studios Areas of Agreement in Paris, with the collaboration of Pascal Bence and Abdellah Souni.

The album is finally recorded in Belgium by Stephan Kraemer, with the Impuls studios in Leuwen, and is masterisé by Allan Ward in Electric City, Brussels. Naturally, it is a new fabric of Juarez Machado which concludes the trilogy.

October 17th, 2005, the album Ladies First leaves in the vats.

It is a success for the group which is pointed out by the radios, in particular with their individual " I Was Born has Cancer" , particularly cynical song - especially when it is known that the whole group regularly smokes out the scene during its concerts and that the singer goes besides until distributing cigarettes to the public, on scene, in the middle of the song in question.

France Inter, Fip, Télérema and others notice the group and make of it the promotion, helping the Ripper which start a third musical round, which will continue during all 2006 with Parisian dates, with the Cicada for example, but also provincial, in all France.

April 27th, 2006, takes place an exceptional concert with studio 105 of the house of the radio, diffused on line on FIP, during which the group takes again First We Take Manhattan of Leonard Cohen.

October 30th, 2006, Jack the Ripper leaves a new album containing four new songs of which a resumption of Leonard Cohen. They continue their round in France during all the year 2006.

January 2007, the group took again the way of the studio

Influence

One spoke much about Nick Cave, and 16Horsepower with regard to Jack the Ripper, influences of which they do not hide, paying even homage by various winks to them, but their influences are deeper. Generally, they will plunge in the mythology and even the literature of the 16th century, for the texts of Arnaud Mazurel. On the level of the stage business, the " personnage" of the singer slightly makes think of David Bowie, the level expression, make-up, etc… But the Ripper draw their inspiration in many other kinds and groups, each musician contributing his share, like the gypsy music with the violonist Adrien Rodrigue, for example.
