JCDecaux

JCDecaux is a French industry group specialized in the manufacture and the installation of urban Mobilier (Abribus) and in the urban Publicité.

History

In 1955, Jean-Claude Decaux (born in 1937) creates a company which specializes in the advertisements of highways. Those being struck of an exorbitant taxation by a law of 1964, JC Decaux is directed towards urban posting, with a new concept which consists in offering to the municipalities of the shelters of buses entirely financed by the advertisers.

The first project is tested for the first time with the municipality of Lyon and extends quickly to the towns of Grenoble, Angers and Poitiers. During the first years the company runs up against the reserves of the advertisers skeptics on the impact of these relatively small posters. But the idea makes its way and the company takes off with the beginning of the year seventy, with the Standard Bus shelter in 1970.

In 2002, Jean-Claude Decaux leaves the management of the firm to his two sons, Jean-Charles and Jean-François. They are general deputy managers of the group.

The head office of the company is with Neuilly-sur-Seine. JCDecaux is present in forty-eight country and on four continents.
