J. Edgar Hoover

John Edgar Hoover (January 1st 1895 - May 2nd 1972) was the director of the Federal Office off Investigation (FBI) of the May 10th 1924 with its death, appointed for life by Lyndon Johnson. It is to date that which remained longest with the head of an American federal agency , having been useful under eight presidents, of Calvin Coolidge with Richard Nixon. After him, a ten years mandate was founded for the chief of the FBI. He is recognized like the creator of an agency in charge of the maintenance of the effective law, while being shown abuse of authority for Chantage towards public personalities, political persecution. By its program COINTELPRO, the agents of the FBI could badger, disturb and destroy the “enemies” like the Black Panther Party and other political trainings of left.

The details of the beginning of its life are rather little known. The source of the majority of the information is an investigation of the Journaliste Jack Alexander. Hoover was born with Washington, cd., although its Certificat of birth goes back only to 1938, educated with the Université George Washington, graduate in 1917 in right. Without engaging for the First World War, it finds work in the department of Justice (helped by an uncle, judges). He places himself in the wake of the Attorney General (Minister for Justice) of the moment, the democrat Alexander Mitchell Palmer, inventor of the " danger rouge" , which makes its special assistant quickly of it. On this date the BOI counts approximately 650 employees, including 441 special Agents. Famous in “Federal Office off Investigation” in 1935 extended and its capacities, it becomes preeminent in the information domesticates starting from 1939.

Hoover obtained a great influence by establishing files on the people, particularly the political personalities, not included in the official files of the FBI. Many were the speculations on its Homosexualité or its taste for the Travestissement. It was also known like a hardened racist. Its right-hand man, Clyde Tolson, was his/her companion lasting more than forty years, and they left often together on vacation. Rumors insinuated that the Mafia of Chicago regularly made it sing with compromising photographs, which would explain why it fought it forever.
