Jürgen Trittin , born the July 25th 1954, is a German politician member of the ecological party Alliance 90/the Greens. He was federal minister for the Environment, Protection of nature and the Nuclear security in the cabinets Schröder I and Schröder II of the October 27th 1998 with the November 22nd 2005.

Biography

Youth

After having achieved its maturity in 1973, Jürgen Trittin refuses to achieve its Military service and chooses to carry out a Civil service. It achieves then studies of Social sciences to Göttingen.

Political career

During its studies with Göttingen, Jürgen Trittin is member of the communist Ligue and belongs to the general Committee of the students (AStA) of the Université of Göttingen. It is during a time chair Parliament of the students. It adheres to the Greens in 1980.

In 1982, he is elected at the Parliament of Lower Saxony, where he sits until 1990. From 1988 to 1990, he is president of the green group at the Parliament.

In 1990, a red-green coalition is set up in Lower Saxony under the direction of Gerhard Schröder, which is minister-president of this Land. Jürgen Trittin becomes Ministre for the federal and European businesses. It remains at this station until 1994, date on which the Greens turn over in the opposition. It is allocated then to the Parliament in 1994, where it occupies the function of vice-president of the green group

From 1994 to 1998, he is also spokesperson of the federal committee of the German Greens.

In 1998, it becomes appointed with the Bundestag, German federal Parlement, and Minister in the first government of Gerhard Schröder. It must then leave the Parliament of Lower Saxony as well as its station of spokesperson.

It directs the Federal minister of the environment, protection of nature and the nuclear security. It is him which is charged with the file of the exit of the nuclear power that the government coalition decides. It is also with its ministry that returns the task to ensure the implementation of the Protocole of Kyoto, like that of the encouragement of renewable energies.

In October 2005, he assumes during twelve days, of the resignation of Renate Künast with the formation of the new government, the interim of the Ministry for the agriculture and food, consumer protection.

When the great coalition is set up in November 2005, the Greens turn over in the opposition and Jürgen Trittin reaches the post of vice-president of the green group at the Bundestag. He is also coordinator of work group 4 of this group: " Foreign policy, cultural policy, human rights, development policy, defense, Europe".
