Description

Reads higher

To its source, the Júcar river crosses the mountainous grounds of the province of Cuenca in direction of the south. Supplied with average precipitations higher than 800 mm per annum, this part crosses karstic zones . The canyons and the throats are numerous there, just as the Grotte S, the Doline S, the Lapiaz and other forms of erosion. The most interesting exeùplaires are with the Ciudad Encantada, Las Majadas and in the bed of the river or of its Affluent S.

Water, rich in Sulfate, has a color emerald. To the material meeting argillaceous, the river crosses full plane valleys.

Before reaching the Ventano del Diablo (Serranía de Cuenca) it receives Uña which forms a lagoon, its water being retained by the natural dam of Right Bank of Júcar.

Reads intermediate

After having crossed a rather abrupt mountainous area and a long course on the plate, Júcar leads to the alluvial plain of Ribera (Province of Valence). So that one can consider that its intermediate bed is between Villalba of the Sierra and the Pantano of All , right before Ribera.

This part of Júcar, very wide, is not uniform: the Méandre S succeed the slopes as in the locality of Alarcón. At this place, a stopping retains water of the river on more than 40 km. After a new race towards the south, the river starts a large curve towards the east to leave the area of Mancha.

River mode

In the upstream part, the mode is pluvio-nival with a maximum of spring. In the median and lower course, it is very influenced by the Averse S which fall with a maximum in autumn, during the “gota fría”, period characteristic of the climate of Raising. Like consequence, there are enormous Crue S which are most important of all Spain. The principal recent risings took place:
  • October 1864: 13.000 m ³ /s
  • October 1982: 16.000 m ³ /s
  • November 1987: 5.200 m ³ /s
(it is about the flow reached with Alzira).
