Józef Koffler

Józef Koffler (* November 28th 1896 with Stryj today in Ukraine; † 1943) is a Compositeur Polish and also a teacher.

Biography

He studied the music of 1914 with 1916 and of 1918 with 1924 with Vienna in Austria. Its professors were Paul Graener and Felix Weingartner. From 1921 with 1924, it received a teaching of Arnold Schönberg. In 1923 it obtains a doctorate with Guido Adler.

Then between 1928 and 1941 it taught with Lviv. It obtained a pulpit (rather unusual) of dodecaphonic composition with the academy of music. Among its pupils Roman Haubenstock-Ramati appeared.

Koffler also carried out arrangements for example that of the Variations Goldberg of J.S. Bach for chamber orchestra.

The exact date of its death remains unknown. In 1941 German invaded Poland. Koffler hid but was exterminated with its family on the public place in 1943.
