Józef Glemp

The cardinal Józef Glemp was born with Inowrocław (Poland) the December 18th 1929.

Biography

It was ordered priest the May 25th 1956, and then studied the canonical Droit. Named bishop of Warmia (northern is Poland) the March 4th 1979 by the pope Jean-Paul II, it receives episcopal ordination the April 21st 1979. Since 1981, he was archbishop of Warsaw, Primat of Poland, Ordinaire of faithful of Eastern rite residents in Poland and deprived usually clean.

He resigned in 2006 and its successor is Mgr Stanisław Wojciech Wielgus, with the resignation of which, the January 6th 2007, he had to take again the government of the archdiocese, until the nomination, the March 3rd, of Mgr Kazimierz Nycz.

Raised with the rank of cardinal by the pope Jean-Paul II with the Consistory of the February 2nd 1983, he was also member of the Congrégation for the Eastern Churches, of the pontifical Conseil of the culture and the Supreme court of the apostolic Signature.
