János Starker

János Starker , born the July 5th 1924 with Budapest, is a Violoncelliste and pedagog Hungarian, become citizen states-unien in 1954.

Under his reputation of icy man - it is defined itself as “that whose interior flame freezes the air around him” - hides a virtuoso of exception, of a great sensitivity, regarded as one of the largest artists of his time in his speciality.

Course

Starker begins the violoncello at the six years age. After having followed courses to prestigious the Académie of music Franz-Liszt of Budapest, where Bartók works, it joined the philharmonic orchestra and the orchestra of the Opera of Budapest, where it becomes first violoncello.

During the Second world war, he escapes cruelty Nazi, but sees almost all his exterminated them during the Shoah.

In 1948, it leaves for the United States, where it will play in various formations: the Symphony orchestra of Dallas, the orchestra of the Metropolitan Operated, then the Symphony orchestra of Chicago.

Since 1958, he is professor at the music school of the University of Indiana, with Bloomington. It is a friend of the pianist György Sebök, who also teaches in the same school.
