Ján Figeľ , born the January 20th 1960 with Vranov nad Topľou is a Slovak Politician .
Biography
Born the January 20th 1960 with Vranov nad Topľou in Slovakia, Ján Figeľ studied the electronic at the technical University of Košice of 1978 with 1983.
Engineer, it began a career of enquiring in electronics which it stopped in 1992 to launch out in policy.
He is married and father of four children.
Political career
He was appointed Mouvement Christian Democrat (KDH), one of the four parties of the coalition to the capacity.
Ministerial career
Of 1992 with 1998, it sat at the national council of the Slovak Republic and dealt more specifically with the foreign affairs. It was representing it with the parliamentary Parliament of the the Council of Europe.
European career
In 1994, it followed a one six-month period course in international relations to the Georgetown university (Washington D.C, the United States of America), then studied European economic integration with Antwerp (Belgium) the same year. That enabled him to become the principal negotiator of the negotiations of adhesion to the European Union in 1998 as a Secretary of State attached to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
He was member of the European Convention until November 2002 (replaced then by Ivan Korčok).
He integrated the Commission Prodi at the time of the adhesion of his country on May 1st 2004. Its current mandate expires in 2009.
Since the November 22nd 2004 it is European police chief in the Commission Barroso and is in charge of education, the training, the culture and the multilingualism.
