Jáchymov
Jáchymov (German Joachimsthal) is a balneal city the North-West of the Bohemia in Czech Republic pertaining to the Région of Karlovy Vary. Located in the valley of Sankt Joachim in the Metalliferous Mounts on the Weseritz, the city was called in the beginning Thal (valley) then later, Sankt Joachimsthal .
At the beginning of the 16th century, a mine of money was discovered in the area of Joachimsthal. The exploitation of this resource made it possible the area to quickly develop and the owner of the grounds where the mine was located, the count von Schlick, became one of the men richest of Bohemia. Schlicks made strike silver coins named Joachimsthalers , which became then the Taler German-speaking countries, then Tolar in Slovenia and Dollar with the the United States of America.
In the surroundings mines of Uranium are used between 1945 and 1962 and which gave a few eight thousand tons of metal. They are especially known to have been used as camps of internments with the political prisoner of the Communist regime.
