Izzat Ghazzawi
Izzat Ghazzawi (1951 - 2003) is a writer and critical literary Palestinian.
Ex-senior of the University of Birzeit, it with fact part of the executive office of the Palestinian Council for justice and peace and it chaired the first International Conference of the writers in Palestine (1997).
His/her Ramy son, 16 year old, was killed in the court of his school by the Israeli army whereas it carried help to a wounded friend.
He was imprisoned and censured on several occasions by the Israeli authorities for his political activities.
He receives the international prize for the Freedom of expression in 1995 with Stavanger and the Prix Sakharov for the independence of the mind in 2001 (at the same time as Nurit Peled-Elhanan).
He published, with the Israeli writer Abraham Yehoshua and the photographer Oliviero Toscani, a book which was a resounding success on the relationship between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
he died on April 4th, 2003, at his place with Ramallah.
