Izmail

Izmail or Ismail (in Ukrainian Ізмаїл , in Russian Измаил , in Rumanian Turkish Ismail and in İşmasıl or Hacidar ), is a city of the south-west of the Ukraine located close to the the Danube in the Oblast d' Odessa. It is one of the Ukrainian main ports of the Delta of the Danube.

Izmail is a small center of agribusiness industries and a regional tourist destination. It is especially since centuries a military city and a naval arsenal. Today it is one of the bases of the Ukrainian river navy, whose forces patrol on the Danube.

The population is approximately 85.000 inhabitants, including 38% of Ukrainian, Russian 30,2% of , 13,5% of Lipovènes, 7% of Bulgares, Moldavian 4,3% of and 3% of Gök-Oguz be.

History

Named initially Oblucitsa, the city was important for the principalities of Valachie at the 14th century and of Moldavie at the 15th century under the reign of Etienne Large the. Taken by the Ottoman Empire in 1484, it becomes military fortified town in 1538 and orders the ford of Plauru.
