Ix is a Planet imaginary Monde of Dune , described by Frank Herbert.

The planet, under the Old Empire (before the domination of the thinking machines and Jihad Butlérien which put at it a term), was known under the name of Rodale IX. It is the ninth planet of the system of Alkaurops. Its name thus comes from the classification made in Roman numeral, the IX becoming Ix. Its inhabitants are Ixiens.

Bloody battles proceeded there at the time of Jihad Butlérien. The planet, occupied by the machines, was taken again by the human ones (grace in particular to the action of the Fencing master of Ginaz Jool Noret), then was the subject of an offensive of the machines, which failed.

It is a covered with snow planet, mountainous, whose industrial cities and polygons are underground.

Directed by the House Vernius, its industry is specialized in state-of-the-art technology, it creates any kind of objects. It is amongst other things about planet of origin of Tio Holtzmann, of which work is used as a basis for many military equipment of the Empire. Opposed to the House Richness in technological research, Ix watch quickly its superiority, making disappear the house from Richness. Ix day before initially not to create a thinking machine (see Jihad Butlérien). The technological advancement is almost banished in the empire, but the reigning house Corrino, then the Atréides house, authorize the engineers of IX to design all the same machines in extreme cases extreme of the rules imposed by Jihad: " You will not manufacture a machine with the spirit of the Man semblable". The planet is indeed the independent source of technology of the human empire.

In the millenia which follow the disappearance of Leto II, Ix develop in particular navigation systems making it possible to do without the navigators of the guild, or the not-objects dissimulated with the prescients, like unquestionable member of the house Atréides or the Navigators, coming very close to them-even limits of an interdict on the way to become obsolete. The Guild and Ix maintain a fragile alliance, which makes it possible the Guild to obtain not-vessels and any kinds of objects, and ensures regular customers Ix. Moreover, the Guild is the only power able to buy and maintain the Ixiens vessels in great number, thus ensuring its monopoly. The Not-vessels controlled by the Ixiennes machines in the same way are very furnished with a Navigator because those make a point of affirming their nondependence on these devices.
