Iwuy

Iwuy is a common French, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Its inhabitants is called the Ivorakiens (even if this official name tends to disappear, replaced by more running Iwuysien ).

Geography

Iwuy is located at the south-west of the department of North, 10 km of Cambrai, 15 km of Denain and with 20 km of Valencian with regard to the cities closest and with approximately 80 km to Lille.

Communications

Iwuy is located at the intersection of many road ways of communication: approached by the Autoroute A2 (A1- Cambrai - Valencian - then Belgian border towards Brussels), crossed by RN 30 (Bapaume - Cambric-Valencian-Border Belgian with Quiévrain) to which is grafted on the large one places city, named Place of the Republic, the RD88 and the RD118.

Iwuy had a Gare the SNCF, since the commune is skirted by line 20: Cambric-Valencians, but this one was destroyed and replaced by a stagnation point. Nevertheless a sufficient number of trains stop there.

Places and monuments

Since 2002 is held in Iwuy the Carnaval of the Chaise, indeed the activity of manufacture and of the restuffing with straw of chairs is a tradition in this city. Consequently since this date a procession of giant is held coming from all the surrounding localities and where the new giants of the city, created are present for the occasion: Alfred El' Carrioteux, Joseph El' Rempailleux and since 2006: Eugenie.
