Iwan
The iwan is an architectural element which consists of a vast porch arched open on a side by a large arc.
Its origins would be to seek in the architecture of the houses and palate of the Middle East. At all events, it has seemed to be really developed at the period sassanide, and is remained an essential component of architecture Perse for this time Sassanide. One of the first examples is that of the palate of Ardéchir Ier.
The iwan combined with the square plan of the palates Achéménides gave the model of the plan of Mosquée says Iranian (four iwans opening on a court), which one finds in all Iran and with beyond (Ouzbekistan, Pakistan…).
