Iwama
Iwama is a city of the Japan located at 100km in North East of Tokyo.
It is in this city that the founder of the Aïkido, Morihei Ueshiba, is established in 1942 until his in April 1969 death.
It made there build its Dojo (the Aiki Dojo) and a sanctuary dedicated to the Aikido (Aiki Jinja). The name “Aikido” is used for the first time at that time.
Iwama Ryu is the name generally given to the style of aikido practiced by Morihei Ueshiba at the time of its stay with Iwama, style perpetuated by its nearer disciple: Morihiro Saito . Style of Aikido of the founder, based on the work of the weapons: boken, saber of wood and OJ stick of 128 cm, are also tranmis within the school Aikibukikai.
