Ivo Karlović is a professional tennis player Croatian, born the February 28th 1979 with Zagreb.
With its 2,08 m, Ivo is the largest tennis player having disputed a tournament of circuit ATP. Its big size was worth to him besides to be called " the Giant croate". So it is equipped with a striking down service, of a rare effectiveness. This sector of the play makes contrast with a very bad reverse, which it very seldom recovers.
In 2003, it created sensation with the tournament of Wimbledon by eliminating Lleyton Hewitt, holding of the title, for its first match in a tournament of the Grand Slam.
It finished the year 2003 among the 100 best players with the technical classification, becoming the Croatian n°3 behind Ivan Ljubičić and Mario Ančić.
Ivo continues to surprise in 2004. It gains the Challenger Calabasas, California, and rises in 16th of finale of several tournaments, of which Wimbledon, where it loses against Roger Federer, future winner of the tournament.
In 2005 it reaches its first final of a tournament ATP to the Queen' S, beating in way Lleyton Hewitt and Thomas Johansson. It loses the final vis-a-vis Andy Roddick in a match where none of the two players succeeded in taking the service of its adversary (7-6, 7-6). After the final, Andy Roddick will say in connection with the service of Karlovic: " It is probably the largest weapon with tennis… one does not realize there as long as one is not the different with dimensions one. It was sometimes not amusant."
Since a match of June 21st, 2005 vis-a-vis Daniele Bracciali, Ivo Karlović divides with Joachim Johansson the record of Aces realized in only one match. It had this day successful 51 aces in 5 sets, and had been inclined in spite of this exploit. Earlier in the season, Johansson had carried out of it the same number but in 4 sets.
Ivo belonged to the team of victorious Croatia at the time of the Coupe Davis 2005 and of World cup by teams in Germany.
February 26th, 2006 it gains its first tournament ATP of double with Australian Chris Haggard by beating the pair James Blake/Mardy Fish finally in Memphis. It reaches on April 10th of the same year its best classification in double: 44e.
With old 28 years, Ivo gains its first tournament International Series in Houston finally by beating Argentinian Mariano Zabaleta (6-4, 6-1).
June 23rd, 2007 it gains its second tournament of the year - and its career - in Nottingham, beating there Stanislas Wawrinka, Gilles Simon, Juan Martin Del Potro, Dmitry Tursunov and Arnaud Clément. Finally it serves 21 aces including one timed to 246 km/h, thus approaching the record held by Andy Roddick which is of 249 km/h. Following this tournament it makes its entry in signal 50 of the best players of planet while being emparrant of the 45e place.
August 3rd, 2007 in a match against Paul Capdeville, Ivo Karlovic serves a " second service" timed with 231 km/h (144 mph), new world records of the " second service" fastest.
It should be noted that in this end of season 2007, at the time of the tournament of Tokyo, Ivo Karlovic exceeded the bar of the 1000 aces registered in only one season, thus joining with the club very closed Pete Sampras, Goran Ivanisevic and Andy Roddick.
With Stockolm, it gains its third tournament of the year, becoming only with Roger Federer to gain three titles out of three different surfaces since the beginning of the year (beaten Ground, grass and synthetic surface).
2006 : May 27th, associated with Ivan Ljubičić and Mario Ančić, it gained the World cup by teams by beating Germany 2-0 with Dusseldorf over beaten ground. Better place into simple: 22e at November 5th, 2007
