A part

Ivan Sokolov - Gary Kasparov

Wijk aan Zee, 1999

In this part, Sokolov beats Kasparov with the apogee of its career (it had just gained 7 parts of sharp in the same tournament before this round) in a hurdy-gurdy alternative of which it controls all subtleties.

An unhappy innovation. Up to now, the two players followed part of 1954. Stahlberg with the blacks played 24. … Dh5 and the part ended in the null one after 25.T1g2 f6 26.Dc4 Df7 27.Dxf7 Txf7

1-0

In all, Sokolov reflects only on 5 blows in front of the chess-board: the remainder being a preparation. It is rare that Kasparov is taken at fault for lack of preparation.
