Iulius Placidianus
Iulius Placidianus was a military officer Roman 3rd century. Member of the equestrian Order ( to vir perfectissimus ) and prefect of the vigils, it was sent in 268 or 269 by Claude II in Narbonnaise, rejoined with him after being itself separate Empire of Gaules, with the head of a small army sufficient to dissuade the usurpers to walk on the Italy, but insufficient to assist from Autun besieged by Victorinus and his army in 269 - 270 (made up from riders and vexillations: 5000 to 10000 men?). Its task was in fact to take care on Gaulle of the south and to prepare the ground with the future reconquest of the provinces. Perhaps in fact, posted close to Grenoble (LASH XII 2228), the roads of the surroundings and the axis of the the Rhone were maintained by this small army (milliary).
For these services and its fidelity, in a time when many others rebelled, Placidianus was named Préfet of the court by Claude II or Aurélien and was Consul in 273 from now on of senatorial row ( to vir clarissimus , on the inscription LASH XII 1551).
It is in 274 that came Aurélien with an army which was undoubtedly not much larger, in preparation for the fusion operated with that from Placidianus. This one took certainly part in walk against Tetricus.
