Itihâsa

Itihâsa is the name given in several Indian languages to the texts and the historical studies . In Sanskrit, the term indicates both more particularly large epopee S of the Hindouisme, the Mahâbhârata and the Râmâyana. It is composed of iti (this), - ha (in truth) and - asa (was), which can result in “into truth, it was thus”.

Other texts are sometimes included in this category, for example the Pûrana, are regarded either as itihâsa, or like “old chronicles”, former to the epopees.
