Italo Gariboldi
Italo Gariboldi (born with Lodi the April 20th 1879, dead the February 9th 1970) is a general Italy N.
Biography
the first experiment of the war
Born with Lodi in 1897, it makes its studies with the military academy and is named officer in 1899. It takes part in the countryside of Libya (1911 - 1913) and in the First World War during which it obtains, twice, a promossion and receives the money medal of the military value. At the end of the war, it is named president of the commission of the delimitation of the borders with the Yugoslavia. It is promoted general and order the milliary academy of Modena and the school of application of Parma. During the War of Ethiopia, he becomes governor of Addis Ababa.
the second world war
In 1940, after the resignation of Rodolfo Graziani, it is named governor of the Libya and the March 25th to the July 19th 1941 supreme commander of the armed forces Italian in Africa. When the German troops arrive to Libya, Gariboldi is replaced because of the continual dissensions with Erwin Rommel, which does not share the intention of Gariboldi to be cut off with Tripoli. The July 10th 1942, it is called in Russia to replace Giovanni Messe with the head of ARMIR, lately created and composed of the army, because of the polemics and the pessimism of Mass, the duce being convinced that fascistic Italy was going to gain the war. After some victories, in April 1943, the ARMIR must be withdrawn especially because of the under-equipment in material. For its value, it receives the Croix of iron on April 1st, 1943. After the Italian armistice of the September 8th, it is stopped by the Germans and is condemned to 10 years of prison but is released by the allies and puts an end to its career. He dies in 1970 and is buried in Lodi in the family vault.
His/her son, Mario Gariboldi, was him also soldier, it accepted a money medal in Russia and it was one principal Italian generals of NATO
