It Would Be So Nice

It Would Be So Nice is a song of the group Pink Floyd written by Rick Wright, left in individual in 1968, then republished in compilations Masters off Rock'n'roll and The Early Singles . Its Face B, Julia Dream , was written by Roger Waters.

The individual original exists in two slightly different versions. The words of the first version mentioned the British newspaper Evening Standard , but the policy anti-publicity of BBC was so strict that it prohibited any mention of some product that it is. The group had to spend 300 pounds additional to especially re-record the song for the BBC, where the Evening Standard is replaced by the Daily Standard . It is this version which for summer has republished in LP, then out of CD. This event was worth a little publicity to the group, but the song was however largely ignored.

In The Dark Side off the Moon: The Making off the Pink Floyd Masterpiece , John Harris written on this song:

La first thing that Pink Floyd left after exclusion Syd Barrett was this song of Rick Wright almost unbearably odd, It Would Be So Nice . The light pop-psychédéliques accents of this individual (perhaps close to the music of these false members of the counter-culture that are, for example, the Hollies or the Monkees) made of it a nonevent which could not mark the British charts. As Roger Waters remembered it thereafter, “nobody heard it because it was a really null song”. The efforts of Toilets in terms of composition was however hardly more promising. Julia Dream , the face B of individual, crystallized about the same problems: if the group wanted obviously to preserve esthetics barrettienne, their attempts played without hope in the category of the weights légers.
