István Szabó

István Szabó ('sɒboː) is a Hungarian realizer, born the February 18th 1938 with Budapest (Hungary). Author of an international career, holder of a Oscar, Szabó is at the same time known the most and less " hongrois" scenario writers Magyar.

Career

In the Years 1960 and 1970, Szabó carries out in Hungary films of author which explore lived of its generation and the historical events of the time: Father (1966), Szerelmesfilm (1970), Tüzoltó utca 25. (1973). In 1980, it carries out its first film " étranger" , the West German production DER grüne Vogel , with Hannelore Elsner, which will open the doors of an international career to him. Its three following films, marked by collaboration with the Austrian actor Klaus Maria Brandauer and the Chief operator Lajos Koltai, will be celebrated by criticism: Mephisto , adaptation of the Romance of Klaus Mann, will gain many rewards of which the Oscar of the best foreign film and the Prix of the scenario to the Cannes festival in 1981. After a short return in Hungary ( Dear Emma , 1992) Szabó turns starting from the Années 1990 to the cinema in language English E, with Meeting Come (1991), Sunshine (1999), Taking Sides (2001) and Adorable Julia (2004), with a success criticizes less.

In 1996, István Szabó receives a Prix Pulitzer for its series of documentary TV " The hundred years off cinema".

The January 26th 2006 bursts a polemic in the Hungarian weekly magazine Élet are Irodalom (" Life and Littérature"). The magazine affirms that Szabó was a " agent" of a secret police under the mode of Kádár. István Szabó was to write reports/ratios on his/her former classmates of the University of Arts of the Theater and the Cinema (it will have written 48 of them).
